Good show (10/30/04)
Editor's Mailbag
By To the editor:-
Glen and I would like to thank Gene and Jane Gillum for the wonderful treat they gave the community in the form of Monday night’s concert at the Presbyterian Church.
Part sing-a-long and part gospel and patriotic, the program included “Happy Birthday,” Scott Joplin, “Stardust,” a Sousa march, a jazzy “Jesus Loves Me,” and “God Bless America.” The George Gershwin arrangement of “Yankee Doodle,” was great.
Besides the talented piano performances of Eric Rogers, executive director of Arts Place, and Jackie Rodden, Jordan Rodden’s mother of Lima, Ohio, we were also privileged to hear LeRoy Imler, an organist/music instructor/administrator from Marion.
And finally, those of us who are treated to Debbie Myers’ piano and organ playing every Sunday morning were able to hear her play a whole new program.
Debbie, who graduated from the I.U. School of Music, works full-time at The Chronicle-Tribune in Marion and is the musical director at Beef and Boards Dinner Theater in Indianapolis, where she plays keyboard and/or piano six or more times per week. What a gal.
Thanks again, Gillums, for such a pleasant evening.
Sincerely,
Bev and Glen Priest
