Good times at Forge retiree dinner

To the editor:

I would like to thank the Frashes and the Eads as well as the union reps for organizing the (Portland Forge) retiree dinner. They give their time to do this for the retirees and their guests. To those of you that decided not to attend, you missed a great night.

You are missing not only the meal but the fellowship of seeing guys you may have worked with for years.

It's almost a history lesson. I know our family alone, between my dad, brother and husband, worked there a total of 120 years. I'm sure at times all of you hated to go to work in that hot and dirty factory, but were thankful to have the good-paying local jobs.

In these times there aren't many forge shops around, and I, for one, just hope and pray that the Forge can hang in there even though they have people laid off.

The videos shown made it worth attending. Not only were they interesting, they brought back memories to guys that may have spent half of their lives working there.

To those of you that didn't attend, think of doing so next year. If by chance you weren't contacted, make sure Dave or Larry have your correct address. Next year make this something you don't want to miss.

It was an enjoyable evening of fellowship, friends and Forge family.

Thank you,

Penny Imel
