Grant may fund Fort sewer (5/4/04)
Town to ask for grant from county
FORT RECOVERY — Village council members agreed Monday to apply for grant funding for a sanitary sewer project on Sharpsburg Road.
The council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the village to apply for a grant through the Mercer County Community Development Block Grant Formula Program.
The village is requesting a $15,000 grant for a $31,700 project, that will provide sanitary sewer service to three residences and one business, located on Sharpsburg Road. Two lift stations will also be installed with that project.
The village committed to paying the remaining $16,700 for the project.
Also Monday, village administrator Randy Diller told council members that he is trying to obtain estimates to turn a basketball court in the Community Park into two tennis courts.
He said that the area will need to be enlarged and covered with asphalt. A 16-foot fence will also be placed around the court and nets will need to be purchased.
Diller also said that the village doesn’t have funds budgeted to do this project this year, but he has been approached by an area resident who is interested in obtaining donations to help speed up the completion of the project.
He said he will keep council members updated on the project.
In other business, Diller told that council that bids are being collected for the sidewalk and street lighting project on Harrison and West Milligan streets. Council members recently hired Choice One of Sydney, Ohio for $3,100 to draw up bid packets for the project.
Diller said that they hope to complete the project by the end of this summer.
Also, council members:
•Heard Diller announce that a $255 traffic safety mirror has arrived. The mirror will be placed at the intersection of Boundary and North Wayne streets to allow semi-trucks traveling on those roads to see other semi-trucks coming from the other road.
Diller said that truck drivers said that two trucks are not able to make the turn at that intersection at the same time. This at times causes one of the trucks to back up.
•Rescheduled Park Day for Saturday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event was canceled on May 1, due to inclement weather.
Volunteers can meet in the Ambassador Pool parking lot.
•Heard that town clean-up day will be held on Tuesday, May 11. Items for collection must be left at the curbside by 6:30 a.m.
Tires, concrete items, bricks, rocks, yard waste, tree limbs, railroad ties, wet paint cans or any item longer than six feet will not be collected.
Appliances will be accepted.
•Heard that the village’s park department recently purchased a 1995 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck for $3,000. This truck will replace the department’s 1985 Dodge truck, that no longer runs.
•Approved the closing of parts of North and South Wayne Streets and a block of Boundary Street for cruise-ins planned on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, Oct. 9.
