Grant sought for firehouse funding (2/16/04)
Headwaters Heritage looking for funding source
Headwaters Heritage and the city of Portland have partnered to seek a grant to fund a feasibility study of the former Portland Fire Station.
An application for a Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana grant to study potential uses for the city-owned structure was submitted last week, Headwaters Heritage secretary Kay Hayes said Thursday.
Notification of the grant awards is expected in March, she said.
Early last month, the Portland City Council tabled action on the possible sale of the building, which is located at 100 Commerce St.
In mid-December, the Portland Board of Works voted to recommend that the building be sold by silent auction.
