Gray leads Cougars

Out of 75 golfers, only two played better than Adam Gray.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate led the University of St. Francis men’s golf team to a third-place finish as it hosted the USF Cougar Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
Gray posted a 36-hole score of 149 — 5-over-par — to finish third individually. He trailed only Tim Langolf (144) of Bethel and Trey Stoll (147) of Grace.
The senior was at his best on the opening day of the tournament, shooting a 3-under-par 69 on Monday at Cherry Hill Golf Club. He followed that up with an 80 at Autumn Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.
Gray is averaging 77.5 strokes through six 18-hole rounds this season.

Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Ran the best time of her young college career as the IPFW women’s cross country team placed ninth out of 15 squads at Friday’s Notre Dame Invitational.
Simmons was the No. 4 runner for the Mastodons and finished 62nd overall. She posted a time of 19 minutes, 12 seconds, in the 5K race.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Competed for the Huntington University women’s cross country team Saturday as it finished 16th out of 38 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota.
Moore finished the 6K race with a time of 25 minutes, 56 seconds. She was seventh on the Forester squad and placed 181st overall.

Dalton McGill
Jay County – 2009
Contributed on special teams Saturday in the Trine University football team’s 30-20 victory over Kalamazoo.
McGill tackled Kalamazoo’s Octavius Sanders on a kickoff return during the fourth quarter. The senior is a defensive back for the Thunder.

Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Helped lead the Bluffton University girls soccer team’s offense as it tied Rose-Hulman 1-1 on Saturday.
Moore was one of three Beavers to take multiple shots on goal as she finished with two.

Frank Thien
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Played for the Ohio Northern University football team in Saturday’s 54-0 loss to Mount Union.
Thien is a senior wide receiver for the Polar Bears.
