Great job on engine show (09/05/2008)
Letter to the Editor
To the editor:
On behalf of the Jay County Chamber of Commerce, I would like to congratulate the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association on another successful tractor and engine show. The community appreciates all your efforts and hard work planning the event.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the many volunteers who helped man the chamber hospitality tent, drove Kubotas and vans, or served as trolley hosts. Special appreciation goes to Pak-A-Sak for providing the gas for the vehicles, and water and ice for the hospitality tent; Ken Kunkle Chevrolet, Olds, Cadillac for loaning us the Tahoes; Arts Place for providing the location for the hospitality tent; and Affolder Implement Sales for furnishing the Kubotas.
The community deserves an "A" for its continued hospitality during the show. Many visitors tell us how much they appreciate the trolley rides and the van service. They appreciate the friendliness of the business community and the Welcome Home to Portland festival. Those who participated had a great time on the tractor ride, which was a new event this year sponsored by the Jay County Tourism Bureau. The Dunkirk Elks and the Dunkirk Glass Museum provided transportation via LifeStream to Dunkirk for dinner and tours of the museum.
Visitors coming into our county for the Jay County Fair, the Vintage Motorbike Show, the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show, and a host of other events throughout the year have an enormous impact on the local economy. Everyone plays a role in making Portland/Jay County a community that sends the message to tourists and visitors that we appreciate them and want them to return.
Congratulations Portland/Jay County and the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association on a job well done.
