Group asking for a revival
Letters to the Editor
The Jay County Ministerial Association and the Jay County Men of Promise are sponsoring The "Jay County Re-Awakening" prayer movement. The purpose of this movement is to ask God to send His Holy Spirit to Jay County as He has done before in the last century. Churches and individuals are asked to form prayer groups specifically for this purpose.
Each Thursday evening at 7 p.m. people are asked to pray for their own pastor, and the leaders of their own church; pray that the Holy Spirit will fill the pastors with power in their preaching, and that the listeners will receive and act upon God's message as well. In addition to praying for their own church and pastor, each week another church in the county will be lifted up as well. This church will be identified in the newspaper and on the radio each week. Watch for it.
We call this the "Re-Awakening" because of the great visitation of the Holy Spirit to this county in times past. The great Fisher Revival took place in Jay County in 1929 and in 1930. The meetings were held at the Christian Church on East Main Street, now the site of Cornerstone Baptist. The meetings were sponsored by the Christian Church and the Friends Church, but people came from miles around to these meetings.
The newspaper is full of accounts of people finding the Lord, and people being healed. In 1930 the meetings lasted for 22 weeks and were held every day except on Monday. The church held 700 in those days and most nights people were turned away well before the service started. Eventually they had to move to the Armory to accommodate the huge crowds drawn by the Holy Spirit to these meetings.
In newspaper accounts of these meetings several Baptisms were described. These Baptisms were held in a river 2-3 miles west of Bryant where at one time there were more than 2,000 people in attendance, and at a gravel pit on the Haines Farm southeast of Portland.
No great Revival has ever occurred in history unless it was preceded by the earnest prayers of God's people. Even at Pentecost the Holy Spirit came after 120 people prayed with one accord for His coming. Look what those 120 frightened people became after He came on the scene. The same is true here in Jay County as well. For more information concerning how you and your church can get involved you may contact us on Facebook at Jay County Re-Awakening, by E-mail at [email protected], or by phone at 260-437-1259.
The Lord wants to bless Jay County in a special way. He's just waiting for you and me to get serious in our asking. Let's join together and bombard Heaven with our prayers. Amen!
