He has lost his taste for tea
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
For over 50 years I couldn’t stand tea.
After all the information that we get from Fox News, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mike Pence, John Boehner, Mitch McConnelI, I thought maybe after all these years I was wrong about tea so I tried some. It was a bit different than I had remembered.
Shortly after the first drink I wanted to join the Chamber of Commerce because I understood that Corporate America should get all the tax breaks, grants and laws passed that they need. I mean, without all of this they may have to invest their own money and they need that for their health care that nobody else can afford.
After the second drink, I began to think about Social Security and Medicare and why we even need it. I mean if things go right, I’ll be rich, won’t have to pay taxes, so I’ll have no need for Social Security or Medicare and why should I worry about others?
Then the third drink and illegal immigrants came into the thought process. I mean, if I have my money in Corporate America that is using illegals to boost profits, maybe I should say how much I dislike illegals and get people thinking about that so they don’t see I am using them and the illegals to get richer.
The fourth drink I began to think about other people. I mean my family. And why would I want to pay for public schools when I have the money to educate my kids and grandkids the way I want.
I mean funding public schools does nothing but defeat my purpose. I wouldn’t want to educate the poor or middle class. They might decide what I am doing is wrong. So taxes to public schools, I don’t like.
After the fifth drink all I could think about was money and material belongings and how I should be in the top 1 percent that doesn’t give a damn about anyone or anything but money and material belongings.
I mean if all else fails I’ll use the Lord’s name in vain just to make people think that’s what God would want. I could say how religious I am and that I know that’s what God and Jesus would want and because of who I am people will believe it.
Then I fell asleep and after an hour or two I woke up and the tea had worn off. I realized that I still think tea is disgusting and that I didn’t like what I had been thinking.
I began to realize that the vast majority of Americans work hard and are not paid that well compared to the top 1 or 2 percent.
Guess who is making them that money. We are.
They will do anything or say anything to keep it that way or make it worse for us. If the bottom falls out of everything they control, they will never hurt the way we will. The poor and the middle class will suffer while they think of ways to use us again —it is greed — can’t be stopped.
Through what a lot of corporations and politicians consider their constitutional rights, they can lie and mislead because we want to believe they care. They do care about money, not you. Giving to the rich hoping it will trickle down is as crazy as NAFTA and look where that got us.
And one little disclaimer: Not all the rich are bad, but the ones controlling this country are the worst of the worst. It’s a shame they can’t all be like Gates and Buffet.
I also thought about the Constitution and why as time goes on it may need updated. Remember, as great as our forefathers were some things existed that shouldn’t have: Child labor, slavery, women not being allowed to vote. Someone was smart enough to change this, and I really doubt if it was the rich corporations.
No more tea for me.
