Health care reform good for all
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The passage of health reform has spurred a great deal of fear about the future in Indiana and across the country. I would like to put my two cents worth in about how good this legislation is for all Americans and try to put some of the fears to rest.
As a registered nurse, I know that health care is a human right and that this legislation is right. I have held a license for almost 20 years and have witnessed the degrading slide of health care and patient rights that has occurred in this country. The reform measures will correct a great many of the problems we face and will save lives.
Patients will no longer be denied care or coverage and uninsured "pre-existing" condition patients can join a high-risk pool to get coverage. Insured patients will not have their insurance revoked when they get sick, or face annual limits on care. Seniors will get rebates reducing drug costs and free preventative care. Children will not face discrimination because of their medical history and parents can cover children on their plan until the age of 26, seeing them through their college years. Health reform will not create rationed care, as we will all benefit from new investments to train more of the primary care doctors, nurses, and public health professionals we will need. As patient populations grow, so will the provider population. Our economy and health as a nation will grow and get better. We will no longer suffer from the illness of American health care apathy and neglect. We need to embrace the changes to come and preserve our new rights! The state-level consumer assistance programs that health reform will establish will help us all to understand and defend these rights under the new legislation. It is right and it will be alright!

To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the senior citizens of Jay County that participate in the senior workout programs at the Jay Community Center to say a public thank you to David Wade.
My husband and I have been involved in his classes for about a year now and the benefits are amazing. David makes working out fun. He knows what seniors should and should not do, and we work at our own level.
David has a wonderful sense of humor and we do spend a bit of time laughing, and that is a good thing for the soul.
The people that attend the classes are wonderful. We are all very congenial and we can laugh at ourselves. David puts a lot of energy and thought into these classes, and we are all very grateful to him.
We have increased our range of motion, increased our strength and improved our balance. All of these things are so important to us seniors and we lose these valuable abilities as we age. Probably the best of all is that we get all of this free of charge, just because we are seniors. How can you beat that? Once again, thank you David for all that you do for all of us.
