Heitkamp reaches 1,000 points at Capital (02/05/05)

The No. 3 scorer in the history of Fort Recovery girls basketball reached a milestone at Capital University this week.

Sara Heitkamp, a 2002 FRHS graduate, reached the 1,000-point plateau as she scored 15 in a 62-55 Crusader victory Wednesday over Ohio Athletic Conference leading Wilmington. She scored 1,494 points in her career with the Indians, just 35 off the school record which is held by Lynn (Bihn) Hughes.

She had a team-high seven assists to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals against Wilmington.

Heitkamp, who is third in the OAC in scoring at 16.5 points per game, also shot 8-of-13 for a team-high 20 points in a loss to Otterbein Jan. 29. She added a team-high five assists as well as four rebounds.

She has led the Crusaders in scoring in 12 of their 19 games this year.

The junior also ranks second in the OAC in steals with 3.42 per game and third in assists with 4.53 per contest. She ranks second on the Capital roster with 5.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 47 percent from the field and 74 percent from the foul line for the season.

Kerri McClung

The Bowling Green senior picked up a win for the Falcon women’s track team as it finished second to Cincinnati (253) with 224.5 points while hosting the BGSU Quintangular Jan. 28.

McClung, a Jay County graduate, won the shot put by wide margin, tossing 15.36 meters (50.4 feet). Cincinnati’s Jo Young was a distant second at 14.02 meters (46 feet).

She also finished third for the Falcons in the weight throw at 15.50 meters (50.9 feet).

Joanie Muhlenkamp

The 2002 Jay County graduate led Taylor University Fort Wayne in scoring in a 69-35 destruction of Wright State University Lake Campus (Celina, Ohio) Tuesday.

Muhlenkamp missed just one of her six field goal attempts and one of her seven free throws as she finished with 16 points. She was second on the team with seven rebounds, and added one assist and one block.

She also scored seven points in a 71-42 Falcon win over Moody Bible Institute Jan. 29. She had three rebounds and one steal in that victory.

Kyle Weaver

The 2003 graduate of Jay County had a second-place finish as the Wabash College men’s swim team was stifled in Indianapolis Jan. 29. The Little Giants lost to all three other teams at the four-way meet — 166-93 to the University of Indianapolis, 147-110 to Xavier and 158-106 to Denison.

Weaver teamed with Colin Fahey, Tony Caldwell and Chad Damitz to take second place in the 200-yard medley relay in 1-minute, 37.94 seconds. They were second to the team from U of I by just two tenths of a second.

The same group teamed to place fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:29.14.

Weaver posted his best individual finish with a third-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.29 seconds. He was the top Wabash swimmer in the event.

He finished in fifth place in 54.71 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Andrew Wells

A former teammate of Weaver’s at JCHS and a junior at Wabash, he competed in a pair of events at the four-way meet.

Wells took seventh place in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11-minutes, 12.69 seconds. He was also 13th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.21.

Amy Meyer

The South Adams alumnus was one of four University of St. Francis players to score in double figures as the Cougar women’s basketball team won 90-66 over Spring Arbor Jan. 29.

Meyer went 5-of-7 from the field and a sizzling 4-of-5 from 3-point range to score her 14 points. She also had two rebounds for USF (19-8), which is ranked 13th in the NAIA.

She hit another four 3-pointers and scored 14 points in a losing effort at Marian College Wednesday.

Abby Arnold

A 2002 graduate of Jay County, Arnold helped the Ball State women’s swim team to a 186-133 win over Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green Jan. 29.

Arnold’s best finish was a second place as she joined teammates Brittany Sayler, Addison Del Rio and Jen Beresheim to finish in 1-minute, 50.29 seconds. She was also fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25 seconds as the Cardinals took three of the top four spots in the event.

Tyler Niekamp

The redshirt freshman and Fort Recovery graduate made the most of his minutes in an 87-63 victory by the NCAA Division II No. 3 Findlay men’s basketball team over Central State University Tuesday.

Niekamp played just five minutes, but went 1-of-2 from the field for two points. He added one assist and one rebound as the Oilers improved to 18-2.

Steph Welch

The South Adams graduate competed in a couple of events as the Bluffton track teams took part in the Findlay Invitational Jan. 30.

Welch’s best finish came in the high jump as she finished tied for 17th among 30 competitors. She jumped 4 feet, 11 inches.

She was also 19th in the 1,000-meter run in 3-minutes, 28.94 seconds.

Jason Lehman

Another South Adams graduate, he joined Welch in competing for Bluffton at the Findlay Invitational.

Lehman placed 56th out of 74 participants in the 55-meter dash, finishing in 7.12 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
