Heitkamp's 23 leads Crusaders (12/18/04)

The Crusaders’ top-five ranking is secure.

With Fort Recovery graduate Sara Heitkamp lead the way, the Capital University women’s basketball team stayed perfect with an 86-64 victory over the Mount Union College Dec. 11. The team is currently ranked fourth in the country by D3hoops.com.

Heitkamp scored 23 points for the Crusaders (8-0) in the blowout of Mount Union, finishing 7-of-13 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. She also made 7-of-8 free throws.

She notched a team-high seven assists to go along with four rebounds and one steal.

The junior ranks second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring (17.6 points per game), assists (36) and steals 32).

She is shooting 53 percent from the field, 38 percent from 3-point range and 73 percent from the foul line. She also averages 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Joanie Muhlenkamp

The 2002 Jay County graduate was one of six Taylor University Fort Wayne players to score in double figures in an 94-62 triumph over Grace Bible College Dec. 11.

Muhlenkamp posted 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting. She was second on the team in rebounds with six, and also had two steals and one assist.

Tyler Niekamp

The Fort Recovery graduate saw action the Findlay University men’s basketball teams two wins last week against Mercyhurst and Lake Erie colleges.

Niekamp scored four points in the win over Lake Erie Thursday as the Oilers, ranked 10th in NCAA Division II by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He also grabbed three rebounds and had one assist and one steal.

He made his only field goal attempt in the victory over Mercyhurst, finishing with two points and four rebounds in six minutes.

Niekamp, a redshirt freshman, has played in seven games this year and is averaging 3.0 points and 2.4 rebounds.

Amy Meyer

A graduate of South Adams, she scored five points as the University of St. Francis women’s basketball team avenged an early-season loss with an 87-84 victory over IU-South Bend Tuesday.

The Cougars, who are ranked 12th in the NAIA’s Division II, also topped Marian College 87-65 last week before falling to Northwood 65-61 Thursday. They are now 11-3 on the season and 4-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference.

Abby Arnold

The 2002 Jay County graduate was in on three to-four finishes as the Ball State women’s swim team dropped a 174-126 decision to Michigan State Dec. 11.

Arnold finished fourth individually in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.04 seconds.

Her other two races were as part of relays as she first joined Ashley VanOsdol, Brittany Sayler and Karla Bailey to place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1-minute, 38.73 seconds. She anchored the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay team, which finished in 1:53.01.[[In-content Ad]]
