Help fill food bank shelves
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Trick or Treat for the Food Bank and help fill the shelves of our community food banks this holiday season. You can help the Jay County community by collecting food items from your friends and neighbors. Helping is easy. While you are trick or treating simply ask for a donation of a can of food. Everyone can participate. Dress up, have fun and benefit your community.
This is a great community service event for all Jay County students.
There is a special incentive this year from great community sponsors. A challenge has gone out to all Jay County schools to collect one can of food for each student enrolled. If the challenge is met by an individual school, a $50 donation will be made to that school’s area food bank. If a school chooses to participate, they will be collecting the cans Nov. 1-5.
Please help stock the shelves. Bring your donations to the Community Resource Center, 118 S. Meridian St., Portland, from 5-7 p.m. on Friday (during Portland merchants trick or treat) or from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday.
Ghosts and goblins of all ages, visit your friends and neighbors, donate your bounty, and receive a special treat.
If you have questions or donations, please call me at (260) 726-7999.
Thanks for making our community stronger.
Alex Dunn
Portland
Big thanks
To the editor:
There are still good and nice people around. A couple of weeks ago I parked in Marsh parking lot. Due to a bad fall before going to Marsh, I had a hard time getting out of the car.
Some young man came over and asked if I needed help. I said I did. I thanked him and told him he was very nice. I did not know this young man, and if he reads this here is a big “thank you.”
God bless you.
