Help keep special athletes warm (11/10/2008)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Thought your readers might like to hear of one of the projects in which the mission committee of the First Presbyterian Church is currently involved: Knitting or crocheting scarves to be used by Special Olympics participants in Idaho in 2009. Five thousand scarves are needed.
You may obtain a pattern at our church office across from the Jay County Public Library (phone number is 260-726-8462) or at Wal-Mart, which has agreed to keep the materials needed in stock.
All churches in Jay County have been informed of this project, but obviously you do not need to go to church to participate.
Please join us. Our church secretary, Cindy Wright, with the help of Pat Beard who brought the idea to us, will mail the scarves if you bring them to our church office by Dec. 10.

Great year
To the editor:
As parents of an East Jay football player, we would like to congratulate them on another amazing year. Most of the readers are probably unaware that this group of young men has an exceptional football team. As seventh graders they went undefeated, and this year as we finished the season by defeating Delta, they had another great year with a record of 9-1.
You might say they didn't go undefeated this year, so what is the big deal? The one recorded defeat was not because they were beaten on the field or out-played. These young men were made to forfeit a game due to an incident in an unsupervised locker room between a student and a player.
The boys were punished as a team and told that this would take care of the undefeated season they were working so hard to achieve. As a team, these very skilled young men rose above this and continued on.
Jay County has a really talented group of young men that have defeated schools that will represent Delta, Muncie Central, Blackford, Richmond and Huntington North.
Congratulations also goes out to the West Jay Eagles on a great season. It was really exciting to see the two schools play one another and see what is coming to the Jay County football program.
If you see any of these young men listed below, please congratulate them on a great season and encourage them to continue.
Congratulations to: Brock McFarland, Darren Bogenschutz, Scott Schwieterman, Dillion Jutte, Cody Bellis, Cade Price, Ethan Bruggeman, Gerardo Perez, Scott Duncan, Mason Franks, Clark Snyder, Trent Whitenack, Skyler Prescott, Ethan Bost, Travis Slack, Nick Spahr, Lucas Boyer, Rich Wycuff, Aaron Dunmoyer, Kane Bray, Corey Bellis, Radney Pearson, Jordan LeMaster, Alex Dunn and Ivan Cox.
We are so very proud of the East Jay Chiefs.
