Help, not critics, best for Redkey (01/27/06)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

This letter is in regards to several things brought up at the last meeting of the Redkey Town Board; still more questions about the audit. There will always be questions that the town board, as well as the state auditors, cannot answer.

Many questions were brought to our attention by former town board president Clayton Phillips. Mr. Phillips should know by being on the board that these problems didn’t just spring up over the last couple of years. They were there when he was office ... enough said.

It is now time for Redkey and all concerned to start healing from this. It seems we have more than enough critics in town. How about some supporters for a change? We, as the town board, will always be open to ideas and solutions from everyone.

Now, on to violet Erlenbush. Violet has been nothing but the best thing to come to Redkey. She is not only very knowledgeable in her job, but works hard to better Redkey. Violet has worked with the state to keep Redkey out of the red many times over. We should thank our lucky stars for people like her and Greg McAwain. What a Godsend he has been for us. Greg has cleaned up everything around the water plant and pole barn, as well as fixed every machine that has been broken for years.

We should pat these two people on the back and say thank you once in a while.

People like Violet, Greg and Tressler donate parts and time more times than we can count.

So lets come together and make 2006 a better year.

Thank you,

Dottie Quakenbush, member,

Redkey Town Board

Plea for help

To the editor:

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Jay County Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the 102-year-old Fraternal Order of Eagles 928 was denied renewal of its liquor license.

Excise police cited us three times in three years for illegal gambling. We were in very bad financial straits. We have overcome most of our problems and are surviving without the illegal gambling now. We assured the board that it would not be allowed here unless it was legalized.

We are doing all we can to keep this historic fraternity in Portland.

We hope this letter will arouse public awareness of our plight and hope that a good fraternal order will not be forced into closing.

Thank you

To the editor:

We, the committee and associates at Portland Wal-Mart 2388 would like to take the time to thank the many customers and businesses that helped us earn $11,090 for Children's Miracle Network for Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis.

This organization is dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for children’s hospitals. They are premier facilities in their respective communities and are some of the finest hospitals in the world.

These hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, cutting-edge research and preventative education to more than 17 million children with all types of afflictions, including birth defects, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy, cancer, sickle cell anemia, asthma and accident injuries, as well as the bumps and bruises of life.

We had a lot of special events and promotions this past year, which many of you donated to or assisted with. Each project was a genuine demonstration of your commitment to champion the cause of children. Our efforts were possible through the generous contributions of individuals, groups and corporations.

The Riley Hospital mission is to improve the health and well-being of Indiana’s children. Riley has helped many children right here in the surrounding area and will continue to do so.

Our contribution was a 99 percent increase over last year and the thanks all go to you, our customers, business and associates.

A great big thank you and looking forward to working with you in the year 2006.

Sally Montgomery, for the

CMN committee and associates[[In-content Ad]]
