Help others during Lent

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
For most of us the flood is only a memory, but for many others they are dealing with it everyday.
Those who are dealing with the flood need their neighbors’ help.
There are some who are fortunate enough to have friends who can help with construction needs, but even if they are fortunate enough to have help, there is still much cost involved.
Our neighbors need our financial help. You can make a donation at your local financial institution or send a check to United Way of Jay County, P.O. Box 204, Portland, IN, 47371.
This is the Lenten season. During Lent we are supposed to be more aware of Christ’s sacrifice for us.
The scriptures teach us that how we treat others, is how we are treating Jesus.
Whatever we do for others, we do for Him. So give whatever you can and make a difference in someone’s life.

Her hometown
To the editor:
A few weeks ago with a heavy heart I brought my mother, Helen E. Holloway, back to Indiana for her final resting place on earth. She had resided with me in Florida for the past few years.
I’ve been gone from the Dunkirk area 25 years. I was amazed at the love, friendship and care given my family from friends, Plymouth church, Mike Shannon, Jay County Extension Homemakers, Jay County Senior Citizens, old neighbors, school friends and Karen McCarthy.
There’s just that very special bond with a farm community and small towns.
Through the years I’ve noticed many changes in Jay County and in Dunkirk — some better than others. But the week I was home, I realized this community has heart that has not changed. My mother loved Jay County and a few weeks ago I found out why.
I’m proud to call Jay County and Dunkirk my hometown.

Confused
To the editor:
I am confused. In today’s  Commercial Review (April 4) on the front page the headline reads: “GOP proposing dramatic budget cuts.”
The story says they want to trim $4 trillion over the next decade. Didn’t they just vote to add almost $4 trillion over the next decade by extending the Bush tax cuts?
Someone out there in Jay land help me understand what’s going on.
Wandering aimlessly in a fog,
Michael S. Kinser
