Help sought for Angel Tree project
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
It’s that time of year again. Autumn is a beautiful time of year with the leaves beginning to change color and fall. But we all know those crisp, cool evenings lead to colder temperatures, and right behind is the holiday season.
That is the purpose for this letter. While we are still enjoying wonderful weather, there are those who are dreading those upcoming holidays because they know it will be bleak for their families — mainly their children.
Once again we are counting on you to help us help them put a smile on those children’s faces come Christmas morning.
Won’t you please give to the Angel Tree Project this holiday season? Financially every year we struggle to make ends meet as we survive totally on donations.
But thanks to people like you we have been able to help children in Jay County for several years.
Last year’s donations allowed us to help more than 1,000 Jay County children with gifts as well as a generous box of food for their families.
Also, we didn’t forget the elderly, as we were able to give 125 gift cards to them.
Our family count is growing larger every year. This year we expect even more due to our economy.
Our applications are already in the school system. There are many ways you can help.
After Nov. 10, you can adopt an “Angel” from the Angel Trees located in the customer service areas of Walmart, First Merchants Bank, Dollar General and Walgreens in Portland. You may adopt a family at the Wayne Township Trustee’s office after Nov. 1 or by contacting me at (260) 726-2148; or make a monetary donation by sending a check to Angel Tree Project, P.O. Box 515, Portland, IN, 47371.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope we will be hearing from you soon.
In the spirit of giving,
Kay Strausburg, chairperson,
