Highly-ranked Indians win another (09/13/05)

FORT RECOVERY — They’re good. And the poll voters know it.
Fort Recovery was voted 17th in the first Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division IV state poll of the season, which was released Monday. The Indians celebrated with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 thumping of the Franklin Monroe Jets.
The Tribe is now 6-2 on the year, with the lone losses coming to Division IV No. 1 Sidney Lehman Catholic (7-0) and Division IV No. 6 Old Fort (5-0). The team is 2-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference, tied for first place with Division IV No. 2 St. Henry (5-1) and Division III No. 1 Versailles (9-0).
Marion Local (4-2) is ranked fifth in the Division IV poll, giving the MAC four state-ranked teams.
Tiff Gaerke, a junior, paced the victory over Franklin Monroe (3-3) with team highs of 14 kills, 12 points and two blocks. She was also second on the team in digs with nine.
Jennalee Post matched Gaerke with 12 points while adding 23 assists. Libero Vicki Roessner posted 13 digs.
Abby Niekamp finished with eight assists and two blocks, and Lauren Wenning had four kills and two blocks. Kristen Schwieterman scored eight points, and Julie Link had four kills.
Junior varsity
The Indians stayed perfect on the season, rolling over Franklin Monroe 25-17, 25-11.
Sarah Braun powered the Tribe (5-0) with 12 points. She also had five kills and three digs.
Heather Schmackers finished with 14 assists, Kinsey Wenning had seven points and LeAnne Tobin notched six kills. Joanna Snyder had five digs, and Schmackers and Angie Wenning each notched three.
Junior high
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade teams finished on the opposite side of the scoreboard for the fifth straight match this season. The eighth graders improved to 4-1 with a 25-16, 24-26, 15-12 victory over Celina, and the seventh grade Indians fell to a 15-25, 25-13, 15-11 defeat to the Bulldogs.
Lorraine Shier had 11 points in the eighth grade victory, and Jessica Taylor and Emily May each added six kills. Nicole Pottkotter finished with six points and four kills.
The seventh graders (1-4) got 10 points and two kills from Holly Brunswick. Haley Wilson added 10 points, and Olivia Thien had six points and two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
