Hilty thanks supporters
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
A little more than a month ago I had an idea to send as many soldiers care packages as I could. Because of the support I received from the community I will be able to send several care packages to help brighten the day of our deployed soldiers. So far I have collected 1,040 items for care packages and collected $1175.55.
I could not have done this on my own.
I would like to thank the following businesses and organizations who made a donation or assisted me in my efforts: CVS Pharmacy; Racster, Jacks, and Associates; Indoor Comfort by Vance; The Andrew Whitacre Memorial Fund and the Salamonia VFW.
I would also to thank Ray Cooney and The Commercial Review and WPGW. I would like to thank the staff and kids of both Asbury United Methodist VBS and Hickory Grove/Pennville United Methodist VBS. The kids at those Bible schools got excited about helping soldiers. The Bible schools donated a combined total of almost 700 items. I want to thank Specialist Brad Tipton for talking to the kids at Bible school about what life is like for a soldier.
I would also like to thank my friends and family for helping me with my lemonade stand. The following people helped in various ways: Bob and Karen Vance; Melvin and Emma Hilty; Lori McIntosh; Abbey Vance; Justin, Kim, and Austin Jellison; Amy Minnich; Preston Runyon; Donald Gillespie and Angie Roberts. I would also like to thank my mom and dad, who encouraged and helped me.
I would most like to thank the great citizens of Jay County who encouraged my efforts and who made donations to help send more care packages to soldiers. I am glad people thought that what I was doing was worth supporting.
It makes me feel good to know I live in a community that cares about others.

Library thanks
To the editor:
The Jay County Public Library would like to thank everyone who helped with the “Novel Destinations” party held on August 2 to mark the end of the Adult Summer Reading Program.
Redkey Extension Home-makers provided delicious dessert breads, cookies and cupcakes, while The Glass Bonsai donated several exotic varieties of coffee.
Participants were encouraged to attend the party to discuss the books they had read during the program and to have a chance at winning one of the grand prizes — an iPod, GPS, CD player, or coffee table book about travel/culture.
Once again, thank you to all who were involved: The Glass Bonsai, Redkey Extension Homemakers and the Friends of the Jay County Public Library.
