The commissioners approved $1,603,166.89 in encumbrances this morning - about $1.22 million of which covered the cumulative bridge fund - in 24 different accounts.

Other large accounts receiving releases were commissioners, $81,593.69; highway, $81,482.43; JEMS, $69,802.89; and capital development, $85,364.97. Ten funds received less than $1,500.
In other business today, the commissioners:
•Elected new officers and made appointments, including: Milo Miller Jr., commissioners' president; Faron Parr, commissioners' vice president; Jim Zimmerman, Jay County Drainage Board president; Faron Parr, drainage board vice president; and Zimmerman, commissioners' appointee to the Jay County Planning Commission.
This morning's meeting was the first as commissioner for Zimmerman, who will represent the south district (Richland, Jefferson, Pike and Madison townships) after spending several years on the Jay County Council.
Three-term commissioner Gary Theurer gave up his seat and won an at-large seat on the county council.[[In-content Ad]]
