Honor all the heroes (01/12/07)

Editorial

They are the everyday heroes.

They are the ones willing to give up a night's sleep so the rest of us can sleep well.

They are the ones whose families worry each time they respond to an alarm.

They are the everyday heroes.

They are the ones who brave the flames, who peer through the smoke, who make sure no one is trapped inside.

They are the ones - men and women, young and not so young - who band together to restore safety in the face of chaos.

They are the ones who know how fragile is the order of daily life, how easily it can be transformed into an inferno, how swiftly it can all slip away.

They are the everyday heroes.

We thank them now as they gather to honor one of their own and one of our own: Everyday hero Sidney Hall, who lost his life last week after entering a burning house in search of those who might have been trapped inside.

There will be tears on Saturday, but there should also be endless gratitude, pride, and honor.

That's what is fitting for everyday heroes. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
