Hosier to try for 2nd term (01/23/07)
Bruce W. Hosier announced today he will seek re-election as mayor of Portland.
Filing for city elections opens on Wednesday.
Hosier, a Republican who was first elected in 2003, is a former member of the Portland City Council and a former city police officer.
"I believe the leadership we have provided has helped establish wonderful growth opportunities, development and investment in our community," Hosier said in a statement released this morning. "I believe we have been able to accomplish a great deal of success, but our work is not done and I am committed to providing leadership that will continue to move our community in a direction that will provide positive results for the city of Portland."
Democrat Jim Sanders, a current member of the city council, has announced he will seek his party's nomination for mayor.
Last week, Dunkirk Mayor Sam Hubbard announced his plans to seek re-election.
City and town primary elections will be held Tuesday, May 8, and filing for those offices will begin Wednesday and continue through Feb. 23 at noon in the office of Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon.
Up for grabs in the 2007 election are all elected posts in Portland, Dunkirk, Bryant and Salamonia, along with two of three town council seats in Pennville and three of five town council seats in Redkey. Pennville and Redkey are the only Jay County communities whose town council members serve staggered terms.[[In-content Ad]]
