Houck earns character award
RICHMOND — Character counts. Jay County graduates are taking that idea to heart.
Drew Houck was selected this week as Indiana University East’s NAIA Champions of Character Award winner, marking the third straight year the honor has gone to a Jay County High School graduate.
Tyler Rigby, a 2006 JCHS graduate who is now an assistant coach for the IU East men’s basketball, cross country and track teams, earned the award in 2010 and ’11.
Houck, now a sophomore, is a member of the Red Wolves’ men’s golf team and earned All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference academic honors during his freshman season.
He finished the year with an average of 88 strokes per 18-hole round.
The Champions of Character Award honors athletes who exemplify the NAIA’s core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.[[In-content Ad]]
