Hubbard to seek re-election (01/19/07)

DUNKIRK - Mayor Sam Hubbard will seek re-election to a second term.
Hubbard said he plans to file as a Republican candidate for mayor next Wednesday when filing for the 2007 primary election opens at the Jay County Courthouse. His current term runs through Dec. 31, 2007. The primary election is scheduled for May 8 with the general election on Nov. 6.
"We've got so many projects going here, I decided to run again," Hubbard said. "I hate to leave a project dangling in mid-air."
The first term Dunkirk mayor added, "I think we've got quite a lot accomplished over the last four years, and can accomplish more over the next four years."
Prior to becoming mayor, Hubbard, 77, served as executive director of the Dunkirk Area Chamber of Commerce. Previously he worked for Indiana Glass Company. Also he was a real estate appraiser as well as the owner and manager of a hardware store.
He has also served as chairman of the Dunkirk Industrial Development Corporation.
Hubbard belongs to Dunkirk Elks Lodge 1776 and Dunkirk American Legion Post 227, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He previously served as president of the Dunkirk Public Library Board, as well.
