Hudson Park work nearly done
Portland Park Board
A little more than 10 years after the idea was proposed, work on Hudson Family Park is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks.
An engineer for The Schneider Corporation told members of the Portland Park Board that although most of the park project will be completed, seeding of grass likely won’t be done until the spring.
“It’s coming along very well,” Nola Albrecht said. Concrete steps leading to the amphitheater stage area currently are being poured, and a roof is being built on the shelter.
Also, landscaping work continues and lights are being installed near the parking areas, she said.
Albrecht said the goal was for this phase of the park project — which includes additional trails throughout the park, amphitheater work, a playground and the shelter building — was for it to be completed by the end of December. Work on phase IV began in July. Muhlenkamp Building Corp., Celina, Ohio, is doing the park work at a cost of $1,345,800.
In other business, park board members agreed that they wanted to decide which pick-up truck to buy for the park department.
Street/park superintendent Jeff Harker asked for permission to purchase a truck without board review of quotes.
Harker said he sent specifications for a new half-ton truck to three local vehicle dealerships, and requested that the quotes be submitted by Nov. 19. He said he expects the truck would cost about $15,000 and he could just choose the lowest quote.
“I have a little problem with voting on something I don’t know the price on,” said board member Rod Ashman.
Board president Neil Medler said Harker should bring the quotes for board members to review. Ashman, and board members Larry Freyburgher and Sharon Bubp agreed.
Harker said he needs a new truck and a new trailer to haul lawnmowers to city parks to mow.
Also Tuesday, board members signed a one-year agreement with Wayne Township for park funds.
Each year the township pays the city $12,000 to help support the park system. The contract is from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2011.[[In-content Ad]]
