Humane Society says thanks
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The Jay County Humane Society would like to say thanks.
On Aug. 10, the Jay County Humane Society had its second annual benefit ride at the Portland Moose lodge. We are proud to say it was a great success. This year our ride was in support of the homeless animals of Jay County, in memory of John “John Boy” Stipp and Candy Girl.
The Jay County Humane Society, Candy’s foster moms Sharon and Julia, and the Stipp family so appreciated all participation in this year’s benefit ride. For many different reasons it was an emotional but happy day for all of us to see you all riding in to support us. This year’s totals were 56 motorcycles/vehicles and 105 people who participated in the ride.
First I would like to say thank you to our sponsors: AMX MotorSports, First Bank of Berne, KSAP owner Michael Keller, Williams Auto Parts, Williamson Spencer & Penrod Funeral Homes, Pits Cocktail Lounger, Dawn Keller, Mel Smitley Real Estate & Auctioneering, Residents of Persimmon Ridge, Shawver Auctioneering & Realty, Simons Manufacturing, Renegade Customs, Crownpointe Communities, LS The threaded Needle, M.E. Construction, Jay County REMC, Golf Club of the Limberlost in Geneva, Fisher Realty & Auctioneering and Oasis Beauty.
More thank yous go out to our board for allowing this to happen. Dave Lyons, Mike Leonhard and the two lady bartenders of the Portland Moose, Jim Smith for mapping and leading the ride, Jay County Sheriff’s Office, Zane Shawver, all the volunteers, along with many who helped us in so many ways as in selling tickets, hanging posters, etc., Audio Hi-Way, Family Dollar, Walgreens, True Value, to everyone who donated to the auction and baked goods table, Ryan Yohe, Cheryl Hummel, Creative Awards for the plaques, Jim & Betty Stipp for allowing us to honor their son, Sharon and Julia who cared for and showed Candy what love was to the end and most importantly our families for letting us do what we love — protecting and providing for the homeless animals of Jay County.
Congratulations to our two scooter winners, Teresa Buck and Tyler Dubeansky. Thanks to AMX Motorsports for supplying the scooters with helmets.
If I have forgotten to mention someone or place I’m so sorry, but this is how blessed the humane society is to have so many wanting to help support, donate, volunteer and list when we need it.
