Hummel leads R-H to 56 points (09/23/06)

Collegiate Check-up

Cameron Hummel is back.

Hummel, a Jay County graduate and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior, missed the first game of the 2006 football season with an injury. He lost his first start of the year against Mount St. Joseph, but came back with a vengeance Sept. 15 against Concordia.

He led the Engineers to a 56-0 victory marking the most points the team has scored in 11 years and the widest margin of victory since 1958.

Hummel opened the Rose-Hulman scoring with his only touchdown pass of the day, and 18-yard strike to Ryan Robinson less than three minutes into the game. He went on to complete two-thirds of his 21 passing attempts for 205 yards while rushing three times for 12 yards.

Rose-Hulman's scoring total was the highest since a 61-44 victory over Manchester in 1995. The 56-point margin of victory was the widest since the 1958 season, when it topped Eureka 78-6.

Her biggest defensive match came in the five-game loss to Temple in which she had 29 digs, three assists and an ace. She added 17 digs, one assist and one ace against Albany, and had nine digs and an ace versus Middle Tennessee State.
