Independent gets on sheriff ballot (06/24/06)
Brian Louth will have his name added to the November ballot, seeking the Jay County Sheriff’s position as an independent.
Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon said Friday afternoon Louth had obtained the 108 signatures of registered voters required by the state.
Louth, 646 East 200 North, filed a petition with Runyon earlier this week containing 110 names of those who had encouraged him to run.
According to state regulations, only 108 names were needed. However, of those 110 names Runyon explained, five were not registered voters, causing them to be disqualified.
She said Friday he had obtained the additional required signatures.
Louth will be facing Democratic candidate and Portland patrolman Mark Barnett and Republican Larry “Ray” Newton, a deputy with the Jay County Sheriff’s Department, who each won their party’s nomination in the May primary.[[In-content Ad]]
