FRHS cross country
VERSAILLES, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team finished third Saturday at the Versailles Tour De Sewer.
The Indians scored 88 points, finishing just four behind runner-up Ansonia. The host Tigers won with 22.
Fort Recovery's boys team was last in the 13-team field with 306 points, finishing well behind 12th place Arcanum (268). Graham Local won with 49.
Tina Roessner paced the FRHS girls (41-25), placing 11th in the 159-runner field with a time of 21-minutes, 31.6 seconds. And while she was the only Tribe runner in the top 25, a run of Indians in 27th through 37th secured the third-place team finish.
Nicole Heitkamp led the pack, placing 27th in 23:29. Abby Huelskamp and Casey Backs went back-to-back in 31st and 32nd with times of 23:42 and 23:44 respectively, and Amber Heitkamp followed in 37th at 24:02.
Ryan Heitkamp placed 25th to lead Fort Recovery's boys (7-78) with his time of 19:24. Caleb Heitkamp was 44th in 20:18 followed by Mathias Koester (86th - 21:52), Adam Pohl (89th - 22:23) and Zach Guggenbiller (110th - 23:41).
Middle school
Abby May was the star of the day, leading the Fort Recovery girls to a third place finish. The Tribe boys finished fourth.
May won the girls race as FRMS scored 110 points to finish behind Russia (60) and Versailles (94). In the boys competition, the Indians scored 104 points, finishing one behind third-place Covington.
It was a solid win for May, who was the lone Fort Recovery girl in the top 10. She finished five seconds ahead of runner-up Tara Snipes for Covington in 13:19.7.
Samantha Tobe was next for the Indians in 13th with a time of 14:12, and Jessica Vogel finished 15th in 14:35. Elle Sutter took 28th at 15:08, and Hannah Bihn placed 68th at 17:58.
Josh Pohl and Nathan Fullenkamp gave the Tribe boys a pair of top-10 efforts in fourth and ninth respectively. Pohl finished in 11:52, and Fullenkamp had a time of 12:08.
Derek Sutter was 15th in 12:33, Marshal Hull took 38th in 13:18 and Calvin Kaiser placed 44th in 13:28.
