Indian runners fifth in Mercer (09/03/05)

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery girls cross country team ran at Wright State University’s Lake Campus for the second time in less than a week, dropping one place in the standings Thursday night.
The Indians, who were third at the 15-team Celina Rotary Invitational Saturday, scored 73 points at Thursday’s Mercer County Meet to place fourth in the five-team field. The host Celina Bulldogs won the meet with 42 points.
Fort Recovery’s boys team, which did not post a team score Saturday, finished fifth in the county meet with 123 points. Coldwater was first with 24 points.
Mindy Vogel paced the Indian girls, barely edging teammate Tina Roessner at the finish line. Vogel was eighth in 22-minutes, 55 seconds, and Roessner was right behind her in ninth in 22:56.
Sandra Sudhoff was third for Fort Recovery and 13th overall with a time of 23:36. Sam Bihn took 21st in 24:59, and Lindsay Sudhoff was 24th in 25:28.
The Fort Recovery boys team’s top two runners also finished back-to-back. Mitch Fullenkamp crossed the line first for the Indians in 13th at 19:35, and Jim Roessner was 14th with the same official time.
Matt Heinrichs came in 49th in 24:15 and was followed by Tyler Huelskamp in 50th (24:21) and Joel Bey (31:30).
Junior high
Fort Recovery’s junior high teams each placed fifth in the five-team Mercer County Meet Thursday.
The girls team scored 75 points, one more than fourth-place St. Henry. Fort Recovery’s boys team did not post a team score.
Amber Heitkamp notched the top finish of any Tribe runner at the meet, placing sixth with a time of 14:55. Claire Wendel was next for the Fort Recovery girls in 16:06.
Abby Huelskamp finished 22nd in 16:50, Alexis Sutter was 29th in 17:06 and Kelly Wendel placed 32nd in 17:28.
Alan Vogel paced the three Indian boys runners as he took 15th place in 14:18. Caleb Heitkamp was 15th with a time of 14:21, and Ryan Heitkamp finished 20th in 14:53.[[In-content Ad]]
