Indian spikers go 2-1 at St. Marys (09/02/03)
FRHS volleyball
The Fort Recovery volleyball team came away with a 2-1 record at the St. Marys Invitational Saturday, suffering its first loss of the season to Old Fort.
The Tribe (4-1) slammed Parkway for the second win over the Panthers in three days, topping them 15-1, 15-2. The Indians also defeated the Ridgedale Rockets 15-3, 15-7 while losing to the Old Fort Stockaders 6-15, 15-12, 15-13.
Old Fort finished the 2002 season ranked fifth in the state in Division IV.
Fort Recovery opened the day against the Stockaders, winning the first game before falling just short in the next pair. Joscie Kaup paced the Indians with 10 kills, 25 assists and 14 digs in the defeat.
Krystal Rammel took control of the match against Ridgedale with five kills and four blocks. Olivia Post led the way in the trouncing of Parkway as she racked up 12 points and eight assists.
Kaup and Post shared setting duties perfectly on the day, each finishing with 34 assists. Post also had a team-high of 23 points, more than half of which came against the Panthers.
Rammel was the team-leader in kills with 18, and Julie Grube paced the defense with 28 digs. Briget Metzger saw her first major action as she battles back from a finger injury, and led the team with 16 blocks.
The Indians’ next match is at home Thursday against Minster at 6 p.m.
Freshmen
Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team improved to 2-0 Saturday with a 15-2, 15-4 victory over St. Marys.
Brittany Brackman scored 10 points for the Indians, while Abby Niekamp followed with seven. Niekamp also had two kills and 10 sets.
Holly Stein added 10 sets, and Rachel Stahl finished with two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
