Indians advance to regional
FRHS cross country
SPENCERVILLE, Ohio - The Indians are making their second straight trip to the regional meet, again.
Fort Recovery High School's girls cross country team placed fourth at Saturday's District III meet hosted by Spencerville to advance to the next round of the tournament. Following a five-year drought, this marks the Tribe's fourth regional berth in the last five seasons.
The Indians scored 122 points, putting them well in front of fifth-place Lincolnview (158). The top four teams and top 16 individuals advanced to the regional round.
Top-ranked Minster, which placed seven runners in the top 10, won the meet with 28 points followed by the No. 3 host Bearcats (33) and Marion Local (81).
The FRHS boys were eighth in the 10-team Spencerville field with 223 points, finishing in front of Parkway and Lincolnview. No. 9 Minster and No. 10 St. Henry each scored 61 points, with Minster winning on the sixth-runner tiebreaker. New Bremen (82) and New Knoxville (91) gave the Midwest Athletic Conference a sweep of the top four.
Junior Marissa Brunswick set the pace for Fort Recovery's girls team as she finished 16th in 21 minutes, 51 seconds flat. Sophomore Nicole Heitkamp was just two places behind her teammate with a time of 21:59, nearly a full minute in front of Lincolnview's No. 1 runner.
Alexis Sutter, a junior, placed 27th in 23:11, and junior Abby Huelskamp was two seconds behind her in 29th. Sophomore Christen Wendel rounded out the Tribe team score in 36th at 23:55.
Freshman Calvin Kaiser was about 30 seconds off the pace for a regional berth in the boys race as he led the Indians in 30th place with a time of 18:35. His classmate Nathan Fullenkamp finished 35th in 18:35, and Ryan Heitkamp was 44th in 19:29.
Marshall Hull finished 61st in 20:43, and Zach Guggenbiller had a time of 22:40 for 69th.
Also running for the FRHS were Samantha Tobe (46th - 22:05) in the girls race and Andy Gray (71st - 23:24) in the boys.[[In-content Ad]]
