FORT RECOVERY - It was a tough season for the Indians, but they closed it with a win.
Fort Recovery's softball team finished 4-16 as it split a double-header Saturday against the Spencerville Bearcats. The Tribe dropped the opening game 3-2, but won the season finale 7-6.
Both teams scored in three of the first four innings of game two, but Fort Recovery trailed all the way. They were still down 6-5 heading into the sixth, but scored twice to take the lead and got a scoreless seventh from pitcher Beth May for the win.
Senior Sandra Sudhoff led in the final game of her career, going 3-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Ashley Grube also had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI.
Val Fortkamp had two hits, including a triple, a run and an RBI, and Beth May finished with two hits and a run.
May went the distance for the win, giving up six runs - four earned - on eight hits and seven walks.
Sudhoff and fellow senior Jodi Tobe each finished with a hit and a run in the opener, and Grube had the only RBI for the Indians. Kinsey Wenning took the loss as she gave up three runs on seven hits and five walks.
Fort Recovery suffered a 6-3 defeat Friday to Wapakoneta (18-2).
May took the loss, giving up six runs - four earned - on seven hits and three walks. Lori Osterholt had a hit and an RBI, and Grube finished with a hit and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
