Indians come up short
FRHS track
TROY, Ohio - The hope was that the Indians could add a couple more state berths. They'll have to settle for just one.
Holly Brunswick and Sam Tobe fell short of the top-four finishes needed to earn a trip to the state finals Friday on the second day of the Division IIIāregional track meet.
Brunswick scored all of the Fort Recovery girls team's six points in the meet as it finished 23rd out of 42 teams. Versailles won with 86 points, finished 14 ahead of runner-up Miami Valley.
Matt Vagedes' fifth-place effort in the long jump Wednesday gave the Tribe boys four points, tying them for 33rd out of 39 teams. Minster won with 51 points, and New Bremen was second with 46.
Brunswick had already qualified for the state finals with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, which was contested Wednesday. She will compete in the Division III OHSAA Track and Field State Finals at The Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday, June 4, at 3 p.m.
In the long jump, Brunswick was in the top nine after the preliminary round to make the finals. Her best jump out of six on the night was 15 feet, 1 1/2 inches, which was good for eighth place.
She was five inches behind Cedarville's Mackenzie McMahan, who finished seventh. The fourth-place finisher was Miami Valley's Laurel Cooney at 15 feet, 8 1/4 inches.
Tobe, a freshman, finished 16th in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 1.76 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
