Indians earn 1st victory (11/26/07)

FRHS girls basketball

UNION CITY, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team kept gradually pulling away Saturday, picking up a 37-20 victory over the host Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks.

The Indians outscored Mississinawa Valley in every quarter - by two in the first, four in the second, six in the third and five in the fourth - to pull away for their first win. Both squads struggled from the field with neither clearing 31 percent, but Fort Recovery benefited from 28 extra field goal attempts thanks to 24 forced turnovers.

Junior Joanna Snyder paced the Tribe (1-1) in the victory with 14 points and two assists. Anne Koesters had eight points and eight rebounds, Nicole Pottkotter added eight points and seven boards and Kelsey Wuebker finished with five rebounds and four steals.

Cierra Saintignon was the only Blackhawk in double figures as she scored 11 points. She was 5-of-6 from the foul line, and also had two steals.

Whitney Harmeson had four points and six rebounds, and Ariel Cox also grabbed six boards.

Junior varsity

Kendra Brunswick carried the Indians to a 35-30 victory over Mississinawa Valley.

Brunswick was the offense for Fort Recovery, hitting 7-of-13 from the field for 19 points. She buried a trio o 3-pointers to go along with three rebounds, two steals and a block.

Shelby Brunswick added five points on 2-of-3 shooting, Alyssa Brackman had four assists and Olivia Thien finished with four steals.

Casey Evans powered the Blackhawks with seven points, six rebounds and three steals, all of which were team highs.

Junior high

Both Fort Recovery teams defeated the Versailles Tigers, the eighth graders by a 36-13 count and the seventh grade team 25-21.

Karissa Will totaled 11 points and four rebounds for the eighth grade team, which turned a 6-4 first-quarter lead into a 16-point advantage at the half. Kylie Kahlig scored eight points, and Kelly Nietfeld had five rebounds.

The Tribe seventh graders trailed by two at the half, but pulled even after three quarters and outscored Versailles 6-2 in the fourth. Amy Link finished with eight points, and Chelsea Pottkotter had seven points and three rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
