Indians fall to Coldwater (04/15/05)

FRHS softball

The Indians just couldn’t get any offense working Thursday night.

Fort Recovery’s softball team, which handed Division II No. 5 Celina its first loss Monday, managed just three hits as it lost its Midwest Athletic Conference opener 3-0 to the visiting Coldwater Cavaliers.

Alyssa Tobe took the defeat as she allowed her only run in the fifth inning. She gave up three hits while walking one batter and striking out five.

Coldwater notched a pair of insurance runs against Tiff Gaerke, who tossed two hitless innings but surrendered four walks, in the seventh inning.

Kristen Schwieterman, Brenda Rindler and Sandra Sudhoff each had one hit for the Indians (3-6).

The Fort Recovery junior varsity team faired better as it traveled to Coldwater Thursday for a 9-8 victory in nine innings.

The Tribe (4-4) trailed 6-5 after three innings before tying the game with a run in the fifth and pulling ahead with two in the sixth. Coldwater scored two times in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extras, but Fort Recovery got the game-winner in the ninth.

Jodi Tobe clobbered the ball all day, finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of triples. She scored three runs and stole a couple of bases.

Ashley Grube and Val Fortkamp each finished 2-for-4 with a triple. Grube also scored twice and stole a pair of bases.

Heather Schmackers added two hits and two RBIs.

Lori Osterholt picked up the win, allowing six runs — one earned — in 62/3 innings. She struck out two and walked four.[[In-content Ad]]
