Indians get hot to top Bearcats (02/14/05)

WAPAKONETA, Ohio — The Indians struggled mightily in the first half Friday night in a loss to Parkway. They turned the tables on the Spencerville Bearcats Saturday.

Fort Recovery shot 61 percent in the first half and 59 percent for the game, scoring a 64-60 win over Spencerville (16-2) at Wapakoneta High School.

The Tribe (12-7), which shot just 38 percent in the first half against Parkway, roared to the lead Saturday with an 11-of-18 first half which included a 5-of-6 mark from 3-point range. It outscored the Bearcats 19-11 in the first period, which would be the difference in the game.

The teams matched each other with 13 points and 17 points apiece in the second and third quarters. Spencerville got within three twice in the final two minutes of the contest, but couldn’t keep pace as the Indians finished the contest shooting 59 percent.

Greg Faller led the red-hot Fort Recovery attack, going 6-of-7 from the field and scoring 16 points. Dusty Tobe nailed three 3-pointers to follow with 15 points.

Clint Tobe scored all of his nine points by way of 3-pointers s the Indians were 8-of-12 from long distance overall, and Sean Kahlig and Trent Brunswick added nine points apiece.

Kahlig grabbed six rebounds, and Dusty Tobe and Tyler Wuebker each had five. Faller and Clint Tobe finished with six assists apiece.

Logan Nourse scored 18 points for Spencerville, which shot 41 percent. Isaac Bowers added seven points and seven assists. Brent Cook had six rebounds, and Nourse followed with five.

Junior varsity

Spencerville had the hot hand in the JV game, shooting 62 percent as it handed Fort Recovery a 60-41 defeat.

The Tribe trailed by seven after the first quarter and 10 at halftime as it shot just 26 percent compared to the Bearcats’ 55. Spencerville just got better, hitting 68 percent from the field after the break to pull away.

Steve Rider had 27 points and seven rebounds to lead Spencerville. Adam Wolfe followed with nine points.

Tony Diller was the high man for the Indians with 19 points and five rebounds. Eric Lamm and Aaron Kahlig added five points apiece and Luke Bihn grabbed four rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
