Indians get past Bremen (10/14/05)

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians bounced back from a heart-breaking loss to pull even again in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

After giving up a two-game lead against Division IV No. 5 St. Henry Tuesday, Fort Recovery defeated the New Bremen Cardinals Thursday 24-26, 28-26, 25-21, 26-24. The Tribe is now 13-7 overall — all seven losses have come against state-ranked competition — and 4-4 in the MAC.

Tiff Gaerke paced the Indians as she slammed down 26 kills. She also had nearly three times as many digs as anyone else on the team as she finished with 28. She added a team-high nine blocks, and had six points and two assists.

Jennalee Post finished with 41 assists and four blocks. Brittany Brackman totaled 10 digs and nine points.

Holly Stein racked up 20 points, Kelly Link had 10 kills and Julie Link scored nine points.

Junior varsity

Sarah Braun and Abby Niekamp had big matches as the junior varsity Indians bounced from just their fourth loss of the season Tuesday with a 25-16, 25-23 victory over New Bremen.

Braun led the offense for Fort Recovery (14-4, 5-3 MAC) with seven kills. She scored six points, including three aces, and had five digs and one block.

Niekamp had six points, five digs, five kills and three aces.

Heather Schmackers finished with 13 assists and six points. Angie Wenning scored nine points, and Beth May had seven digs.

Freshmen

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshmen dropped their opening game but rallied for a 22-25, 25-19, 15-12 victory over the Marion Local Flyers.

Annie Koesters racked up a team-best nine kills. She also had five blocks and five points.

Chelsea Klenke scored nine points, and Melissa Tobe had four kills.[[In-content Ad]]
