Indians place 8th

FRHS cross country

GREENVILLE, Ohio - Marissa Brunswick led the Fort Recovery High School cross country team Saturday as it placed eighth in the Kiwanis Treaty City Invitational.

The Indian girls scored 206 points to finish 32 ahead of ninth-place Marion Local in the 18-team field. Coldwater won easily with 68 points.

The Tribe boys team finished 21st of 26 teams with 610 points. Russia scored 98 points to win the championship by a point over Minster.

Brunswick placed 20th to lead Fort Recovery, crossing the finish line one second ahead of Coldwater's Leah Brunswick in 21 minutes, 24 seconds. Abby May was the No. 2 runner for the Indians in 22:10.

Casey Backs was 42nd in 22:17, Nicole Heitkamp placed 61st in 22:58 and Abby Huelskamp finished 80th in 23:52.

None of the Tribe boys finished in the top 75 as Ryan Heitkamp led the team with a time of 18:59 for 77th. Nathan Fullenkamp was next in 108th at 19:26 ahead of Calvin Kaiser (128th - 19:59), Marshal Hull (176th - 21:31) and Zach Guggenbiller (207th - 23:18).

Other varsity runners for FRHS were Alexis Sutter (82nd - 23:55) and Samantha Tobe (84th - 24:01) for the girls and Andy Gray (215th - 24:12) and Aaron Will (220th - 25:38).

Claire Wendel led the Indians in the reserve race in 113th with a time of 26:49.

Junior varsity

Josh Pohl finished as the runner-up to lead the Fort Recovery boys team to an eighth-place finish in the 31-team field.

The Indians scored 336 points to finish 11 ahead of Shawnee. Russia won the meet with 101.

The FRMS girls finished in 12th place with 351 points, 22 better than 13th-place Archbishop Alter. Minster cruised to the victory with 67 points in the group of 27 teams.

Pohl was one of only two runners to crack the 11:30 mark, finishing second in 11:28. Calen Bruner of the host Green Wave won in 11:15 while Northmont's J.T. Mackay was third in 11:40.

Derek Sutter was the No. 2 runner for Fort Recovery in 12:34. Also running for the Tribe were Joe Gonzalez (97th - 13:44), Grant Hull (100th - 13:45) and Isaac Keller (176th - 14:58).

Jessica Vogel set the pace for the FRMS girls team with a time of 13:50 for 15th place. Elle Sutter was 28th in 14:11 followed by Cassie Gray (122nd - 15:44), Samantha Kaiser (124th - 15:54) and Janel Heitkamp (167th - 16:41).[[In-content Ad]]
