Indians rally in 7th

BOTKINS, Ohio - For the first six innings of both games Saturday, the offense was mostly dormant. But the Indians' bats came alive in the seventh.

The Fort Recovery High School softball team scored four times in the final frame of game one and five in game two to win both games of Saturday's double-header 5-2 over the Botkins Trojans.

Carly Staugler had two hits, a run and an RBI in game one for the Tribe (4-0), which trailed 2-1 before the seventh inning outburst. Kinsey Wenning added two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.

Kelly Thien drove in two runs, Joanna Snyder scored twice and Olivia Thien posted a pair of hits.

A pair of unearned runs had the Indians down 2-0 in game two, but again they came up big in the final frame.

Olivia Thien had a two-run single in the seventh inning and also had a stolen base. Snyder, Staugler, Wenning, Kelly Sudhoff and Josie Guggenbiller each added a hit and a run.

Wenning and Andi Sutter turned in a pair of impressive pitching efforts, each striking out 11 batters. Wenning gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks in the opening. Sutter allowed two hits and eight walks in game two.

Junior varsity

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians lost both halves of Saturday's double-header 19-4 and 15-2 to the St. Henry Redskins.

Shelby Brunswick took the game-one loss, allowing seven runs - two earned - on four hits and three walks. Eight of the 15 runs against Beca Tobe in game two were unearned as she gave up 10 hits and four walks.

Taylor Guggenbiller drove in all four Fort Recovery runs in the first game with two singles and a triple. Kendra Stammen scored three times.

Stacy Gehle doubled and drove in a run in game two, and Nicole Hart had a single and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
