Indians send two to XC regional (10/22/07)
FRHS cross country
SPENCERVILLE, Ohio - For the third straight year, Fort Recovery High School will have girls running at the regional meet.
Tina Roessner and Mindy Vogel each qualified for the cross country regional at Troy with top-16 efforts at Saturday's Spencerville District. The Tribe girls team fell one spot short of earning a third-straight regional berth, finishing fifth out of 11 teams.
The top four teams and top 16 individuals advance to the regional round.
Fort Recovery scored 108 points to finish 20 behind fourth-place Coldwater. Minster, the 2006 state runner-up, won with 37, the host Bearcats were second with 75 and Lincolnview took third at 86.
The Indian boys team, made up completely of freshmen, was 11th out of 12 teams with 323 points. It finished ahead of Delphos St. John's (360) while Minster won with 63 and New Bremen was second at 68).
Roessner, a junior, ran nearly a minute faster than at last season's district meet to lead the Fort Recovery girls. She edge Claire McConnell of Spencerville at the finish line, taking 10th place in 20-minutes, 29 seconds.
Vogel, a 2006 state qualifier, was right on Roessner's heels. She followed McConnell and her teammate Ashley Gilroy (20:31.3) to take 13th place in 20:31.7.
The rest of the Tribe top five was a trio of freshmen, with Alexis Sutter in 24th at 21:30.4 Her classmates Casey Backs (29th - 21:56.4) and Abby Huelskamp (35th - 22:14.6) followed in 29th and 35th respectively.
Ryan Heitkamp paced the Fort Recovery boys as he finished 41st in 18:45. Caleb Heitkamp was 61st in 19:37, followed by Alan Vogel (69th - 20:15), Aaron Will (77th - 21:59) and Zach Guggenbiller (80th - 22:14).
Also running for the Tribe girls were Amber Heitkamp (37th - 22:20.7) and Sam Bihn (47th - 23:15.2)[[In-content Ad]]
