Indians split pair with Houston (04/03/06)

HOUSTON, Ohio — The Indians and Wildcats were about as evenly matched as they could be.
In Saturday’s double-header Fort Recovery had 11 hits. So did Houston.
Fort Recovery committed two errors. So did Houston.
And keeping with the balanced theme, Houston won the opening game 3-1 and the Tribe took game two 3-2.
Toby Metzger had a pair of hits and a run to help the Indians (3-3) come back after trailing 1-0 after the first two innings of game two. They pulled even in the top of the third inning, only to fall behind again 2-1 in the bottom.
But, they notched two runs in the top of the fourth and both teams went scoreless the rest of the way.
Joining Metzger with two hits was Bobby Rammel, and Troy Metzger had a single, a run and an RBI.
Brad Fortkamp got the win, allowing two runs — one earned — on four hits and four walks. He also struck out four batters in four innings.
Dan Heitkamp gave up three hits in one scoreless inning of relief.
Fort Recovery, coming off a 5-1 loss to Crestview Friday night, also trailed 1-0 after the opening two innings of game one, but were unable to rally. After tying the game in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom.
Metzger took the loss as he gave up three runs — two earned — on three hits in five innings.
He struck out three and walked three.
He led the offense with a single and a run. Rammel had the only other Tribe hit, and Clint Tobe drove in a run.
Junior varsity
FORT RECOVERY — The Houston Wildcats were no match for Fort Recovery Saturday as the Indians earned a pair of wins, 14-4 in five innings and 5-3.
The Tribe (2-2) lost 12-0 to Crestview Friday night.
Alex Gehle went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs to lead the Indians in the opener. Matt Braun added two hits, including a double, and two runs. Frank Thien scored three times, and Jordan Hess and Tom Staugler added two runs apiece.
Brady Kahlig had a single, two runs and a stolen base to power the Tribe in game two. Braun had a pair of hits.
