Indians take 2 at invite (09/06/05)

ST. MARYS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team went 2-1 at the St. Marys Invitational Saturday, winning its opening two matches before falling to Old Fort 25-18, 25-11.

The Tribe needed three games for each of its wins, topping Bethel 18-25, 25-15, 15-12 and the host Roughriders 25-18, 27-29, 16-14.

Middle hitters Lauren Wenning and Tiff Gaerke unloaded versus St. Marys, racking up 20 and 16 kills respectively. Gaerke paced the Indians (4-1) in each of the other matches with 11 kills against Bethel and five versus Old Fort.

Gaerke also had four points, four digs and three blocks against Bethel. Vicki Roessner notched 11 digs, Kristen Schwieterman scored nine points and Jennalee Post put up 15 assists.

Against St. Marys Gaerke notched four blocks, six points and 11 digs. Post matched her with four blocks to go along with 30 assists and a team-high seven points.

Roessner had 13 digs, and Brittany Brackman scored six points.

Old Fort limited the Tribe to just eight service points. Schwieterman and Brackman each had two.

Julie Link matched Gaerke’s five kills, and Post had 11 assists. Roessner picked up six digs, Schwieterman had five digs and Wenning added three blocks.

Freshman volleyball

FORT RECOVERY — They barely squeaked out the second game, but the Fort Recovery freshmen managed to improve to 2-0 with a 20-25, 26-24, 15-9 victory over the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders Saturday.

Kelsey Wuebker posted team highs in both kills and points — five each. She also had one dig. Chelsea Klenke matched Wuebker with five points.

Annie Koesters added four kills, four points, one block and one dig.[[In-content Ad]]
