NEW BREMEN — It sure wasn’t the best game of the current winning streak. But the run of victories is now at eight in a row for the Fort Recovery girls basketball team.

The Indians’ early pressure defense led them to a 46-35 win over the St. Henry Redskins Tuesday as they opened tournament play at the New Bremen sectional.

The Tribe, which has won 13 of its last 14 games, will play the No. 8 Marion Local Flyers for the sectional title at New Bremen Saturday at 7:45 p.m. Marion Local is responsible for Fort Recovery’s last defeat, a 50-45 decision Jan. 15.

Despite one of their worst shooting nights, the Indians took the early lead and never gave away the advantage. Their pressure defense forced 10 first-quarter turnovers, as they took a 15-4 lead.

St. Henry pulled to within eight points at halftime, but never made a serious run as it lost to the Tribe for the second time this year.

Holly Stein had 13 points to lead Fort Recovery, and Joscie Kaup had 10 points. However, they combined to shoot 6-of-21 from the field as the Indians finished 10-of-38 (29 percent).

Krystal Rammel and Jenn Stahl each had eight rebounds. Ciera Rammel dished out three assists, and Kaup had three steals.

The Redskins had an even more difficult night from the field, making just 12-of-48 attempts for 25 percent.

Danielle Kremer was the lone player to reach double figures as she scored 14 points. She also had three assists and four steals.

Kayla Lefeld had seven points and seven rebounds. Linsay Hess also finished with seven rebounds, and Kendra Buschur had four steals.[[In-content Ad]]
