It's good to work together
Editorial
It won’t be easy, but at least people will be pulling in the same direction.
Until recently, it’s been a tug-of-war between Jay Schools and the Jay Classroom Teachers Association. And that doesn’t get anyone anywhere.
Dave Golden of the JCTA struck just the right note Monday, telling the board the teachers’ union wants to help achieve fiscal health for the school corporation while not disrupting the process of education.
Restoring lines of communication and rebuilding trust are critical because the problems confronting Jay Schools and the JCTA can be daunting.
Health insurance costs and continual changes in state funding put pressure on the corporation’s budget and the household budgets of individual teachers.
And an Indiana General Assembly that’s forever tinkering with public education — chasing every whim or ideological fad that comes along — doesn’t make the task any easier.
As Golden put it Monday, those involved may not know how to solve the problems but they do know with certainty that solutions have to be found.
The important thing at this point is to search for those solutions together, pulling in the same direction instead of tugging on opposite ends of the rope. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
