Jail switches phone provider

Jay County Commissioners

After discovering there would be no fees for terminating a phone contract with CenturyLink, the Jay County Commissioners signed a 3-year contract with Comcast for phone service at the Jay County Jail.
Monday morning the commissioners asked Jay County 911 coordinator Bill Baldwin to find out if there would be any fees if the county terminated its contract with CenturyLink for phone service. He reported back later Monday morning that no fees would be assessed.
The monthly service fee with Comcast will be $324.50. Monthly bills from CenturyLink ranged from $500 to $700 per month. The phone service will be for the administration offices of the jail.
With no other issues to resolve, the commissioners signed the contract with Comcast.
Baldwin and Jay County Sheriff Ray Newton had proposed the switch as a way to cut costs.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Selected H.J. Umbaugh and Associates as the county’s financial adviser.
The commissioners received bids from H.J. Umbaugh for services not to exceed $4,500 and from Financial Solutions Group for services not to exceed $4,500 plus travel expenses of 49 cents per mile.
Although the county formerly utilized Financial Solutions Group, the commissioners chose H.J. Umbaugh on the recommendation of Jay County Auditor Nancy Culy.[[In-content Ad]]
