Jail update given
Jay County Building Corporation
Construction crews are continuing to set structural elements at the Jay County Jail expansion as the project moves forward without impediment.
The Jay County Building Corporation met this morning and received an update on construction progress from Jeff Badders of SchenkelShultz and paid the monthly bills.
"We are up to the first floor level with all the masonry," Badders said later this morning. "We're setting structural steel and we're probably 50 percent done with that.
"They're going to start the precast (concrete) starting Dec. 1," he said.
Once the first floor work is set, crews will begin erecting the second floor of the building, anticipated to begin about Jan. 1, Badders said.
Construction, with a little help from the weather, has continued smoothly throughout the month and Badders said there have "been no major surprises."
In other business this morning, the building corporation board approved the monthly claims totaling $563,541.73. Outside of about $15,000 paid to SchenkelShultz and soil testing group Alt and Witzing Engineering, Inc., the remainder of the payment was made to general contractor Weigand Construction.[[In-content Ad]]
