James tapped to fill Redkey post
By Robert Banser-
REDKEY — Debbie James will succeed Sandy Kirby as clerk-treasurer here, effective at the beginning of January.
Kirby announced her retirement plans last month, and Jay County Democratic chairman Tim Southworth said Friday that after accepting letters from interested Democrats through Thursday, Redkey precinct committeemen selected assistant clerk-treasurer James to replace Kirby, continuing through the remainder of Kirby’s term which is set to expire at the end of 2011.
Debbie James and her husband, Redkey town marshal Donnie James, reside at 126 S. Meridian St., Redkey.
She previously served as utility clerk under Kirby from 1976 to 1979, and more recently served as deputy clerk-treasurer, Southworth said.
She has also held various other jobs including working in the display advertising department for The Commercial Review and The News and Sun.
James grew up in Redkey and attended Redkey High School through her junior year, transferring to Jay County High School when RHS closed in 1975. She was a member of the first graduating class of Jay County High School in 1976. Kirby said she recommended James for the position, and Southworth said both Redkey Democratic precinct committeemen, Dottie Quakenbush and Jim Barrett, voted in favor of the appointment.[[In-content Ad]]
