A former Patriot has become the offensive leader for the Ball State University baseball team.
Billy Wellman, JCHS class of 2009, is the Cardinals’ leading hitter after picking up two hits apiece in games Friday and Saturday against Central Michigan.
Wellman, who has played first base and catcher for BSU (11-36) this season, opened Saturday’s game against Central Michigan with an RBI double in the first inning. He added a single in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the eighth as he went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the 15-4 defeat.
He was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI in Friday’s 6-5 loss to CMU.
Wellman is the only Ball State player hitting better than .300 this year with a .322 batting average. He is also the team leader with four home runs, and shares the team lead in RBIs with 23 for the Cardinals despite having played in just 25 of their 47 games.

Jay County – 2009
Was part of a second-place relay finish for the Indiana Tech men’s track team at Saturday’s 2nd to Last Chance meet hosted by Grand Valley State.
Reynard joined teammates Jordan Foster, Austen Barnes and D’Quan Ruth for a time of 3 minutes, 12.31 seconds, in the 4x400-meter relay. They were just eight hundredths of a second behind champion GVSU.
The junior also placed 12th in the 200 dash in 22.17.
Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Picked up a pair of hits Sunday in the NCAA No. 4 Baylor University baseball team’s 12-6 loss to Oklahoma.
Ludy smacked a solo home run for the Bears (40-11) in the first inning. He added a single in the third.
Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Competed in three events for the Ball State University women’s track team, which finished 10th Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
McMillan ran the lead leg of the 4x100-meter relay for the Cardinals, teaming with Janae Taylor, Thekla Lorenz and Rebecca Lomax for a ninth-place finish in 47.33 seconds. She posted a time of 25.41 for 22nd place in the 200 dash, and finished the 100 dash in 12.58 for 23rd place.
