Jay Co. grad voted All-KIAC

Collegiate Check-up

For the second straight year, Tyler Rigby was one of the KIAC's best.

The 2006 Jay County High School graduate was named to the All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team Feb. 26 during the semifinal round of the league tournament.

Rigby became Indiana University - East's all-time leading scorer this year as he averaged 19.1 points per game - fourth-best in the KIAC and 23rd in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. He finished his junior season with 1,079 points.

He also holds Red Wolves records for field goals (384) and 3-pointers (148). He finished 11th in the NAIA 3-point field-goal percentage (.435), 44th in field-goal percentage (.516) and 47th in 3-pointers per game (2.4).

Rigby was named KIAC men's basketball Player of the Week twice this season.

Dexter Shreve

Jay County - 2009

Won three legs of the heptathlon and finished fourth in the event overall as the Kent State University men's track team finished in the middle of the pack at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.

Shreve won the 60-meter dash (7.22 seconds), long jump (22 feet, 3 ½ inches) and 1,000 run (2 minutes, 49.28 seconds) in the heptathlon at the meet Saturday at Central Michigan. He scored 4,981 points to finish fourth in the heptathlon.

In the rest of the seven events, he was third in the high jump (6 feet, 4 ¼ inches), fifth in the shot put (36 feet, 8 ¼ inches) and sixth in the 60 hurdles (8.77) and pole vault (12 feet, 1 ½ inches).

The Golden Flashes finished third in a five-team field behind Eastern Michigan and Akron.

Anne Lehman

South Adams - 2008

Turned in her best game of the season thus far in helping lead the Goshen College softball team to a 12-11 victory over Augustana Feb. 25.

Lehman totaled two hits, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base as she hit in the No. 2 spot. In the first inning she singled and scored a run, and in the second she had a single, advance to second base on a Kat Berg single, stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The sophomore second baseman also had a hit and a run against Concordia Feb. 24. For the season, she has three hits, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

Jana Beitler

South Adams - 2009

Also had her best game of the season for the Goshen College softball team in the win over Augustana.

Beitler walked and scored a pair of runs for the Maple Leafs in the win over Augustana. In the second inning she walked, advanced to second on an Ashley Hasbrouck single and scored on Lehman's single.

The freshman reached base on an error in the fourth inning and later scored on a single from Berg.

She also singled Feb. 24 as the Maple Leafs fell 3-0 to Webber International.

Joanna Snyder

Fort Recovery - 2009

Scored six points Friday in the Ohio Northern University women's basketball team's season-ending loss to Capital in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.

Snyder hit a 3-pointer in the game and also finished with four rebounds.

The freshman played in all but one of the Polar Bears games this season, including eight starts, and averaged 7.9 points per game. She finished the year with 84 rebounds, 39 assists and 33 steals while shooting 81 percent from the foul line.

Josh Ludy

Jay County - 2008

Recorded hits in each of his last two games for the Baylor University baseball team.

Ludy hit a two-out double in the ninth inning of a 14-6 loss Wednesday to Louisiana Tech. He was also hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.

The sophomore also had a single Feb. 27 in a 4-2 Bears loss to Texas A&M.

Cori Vormohr

Jay County - 2009

Compete for the Ball State University women's swim team Feb. 27 at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

Vormohr's best finish came in the 100-yard breaststroke, in which she was 22nd in 1 minute, 8.62 seconds. She was also 24th in the 200 breaststroke and 29th in the 200 individual medley.[[In-content Ad]]
