Jay Co. grads battle in relays
Collegiate Check-up
A pair of 2009 Jay County High School graduates competed Saturday at the University of Tennessee’s Sea Ray Relays.
Brandon Reynard of the Indiana Tech men’s track team turned in his best effort in the 4x400-meter relay as he teamed with Zac Chapman, Jonathan Tims and Billy Henderson to place sixth in the event in 3 minutes, 19.3 seconds. He was also 23rd with a time of 55.43 in the 400 hurdles.
Dexter Shreve placed 11th for the Kent State University men’s track team in the decathlon with 6,061 points.
His top effort came in the pole vault portion of the event as he placed fourth at 14 feet, 1 ¼ inches, and he was also seventh in both the 100 dash (11.19) and high jump (6 feet, 2 ¾ inches).
Chase Ingle
South Adams – 2010
Finished the year strong as he picked up three victories for the Hanover College men’s track team as it defeated Manchester 8-1 and fell to Franklin 5-4.
Ingle was in control of both of his singles matches, rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 spot over Manchester’s William Smith. He also defeated Neal Herzog of Franklin 6-2, 6-3.
He added a No. 3 doubles victory against Manchester, teaming up with Derek Zimmers to beat Christopher Thomas and Smith 8-4. His only loss of the day came as he and Zimmers lost 8-2 to Franklin’s Jared Hunt and Justin Moran.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Led the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team in the 400-meter dash Saturday as it competed at the Spartan Classic hosted by Manchester.
Johnson finished the 400 dash in 1 minute, 2.82 seconds to finish fourth out of 21 competitors. She was also eighth in the high jump at 4 feet, 7 1/8 inches.
Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Was one of four players to pick up multiple hits Saturday as the Baylor University baseball team clobbered fifth-ranked Texas A&M 12-1.
Ludy got going late in the game as he ripped an RBI double to left-center field in the seventh inning. He added a single and scored a run as part of the Bears’ five-run eighth.
He was also 2-for-4 Friday in Baylor’s 5-1 loss to Texas A&M.
Megan Adams
Jay County – 2008
Helped the Huntington University women’s tennis team to an 8-1 victory Monday over St. Francis.
Adams played in the No. 5 singles spot for the Foresters, defeating Sarah Vietmeier 8-5.
Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2009
Drove in one of the Goshen College softball team’s runs Sunday in a 3-2 loss to Marian.
Beitler smacked a two-out single up the middle in the second inning to drive in teammate Jenna Nofziger.
Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Helped the Bethel College men’s track team to a fourth-place finish Saturday in a field of 19 at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Benedictine.
Heckard’s top effort came in the 5,000-meter run as he turned in a 12th-place finish in 17 minutes, 24 seconds.
He was also 42nd in the 1,500 run in 4:54.[[In-content Ad]]
